a long long time ago…

It seems like forever since I last posted, which is probably because it has been (or since the end of September). So many things have happened since then but every time I think, “I’ll sit down and post on my blog,” I try so hard to get the perfect words, the best picture, the funniest retelling, and end up losing the desire to even sit down and write.

For our 5 year anniversary in October, we did a little celebrating in the form of getting the bathroom most of the way done – finally!

A little bit later in the month, we celebrated an early Thanksgiving with the Man’s parents which also happened to be their anniversary. They happened to be down visiting us before they went to Puerto Rico to ride out the cold months, and we surprised them. It was lovely.

Abby continues to be her usual crazy self, including an experiment in eating lemons while we were at work one day.

I November I decided that I missed the ER and my ankle gave out as I stepped out my back door. Hello, fractures… (and this is a “healing” picture of it)

And for Christmas, we had an amazing time with family (and tortured the dog, per usual).

On this quiet, snowy day I figured I would just take a moment to say hello. I hope you’re well, I hope you’re safe as this storm takes over the east coast, and I hope you come back again next time I post.

beginning of the end…

The one perk to being home for a week after surgery was that the company we had chosen to use for sheet rock in the bathroom called and they were able to squeeze us in! It was like getting  a 2 for 1 deal – home recuperating and resting, while someone else did the work in the house! Bonus? No extra time needed off from work.

We finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and the beginning of the end to the year and a half saga of not having our main bathroom!!! Of course, we needed to have a quality inspection as the work was being done.

Hope everyone is having a lovely furry friday! Next week I’ll share pics of the finger post-surgery. At least now I can type with all 10 fingers again!

furry family friday

The Man’s parents came down for a visit on Thursday and are staying with us for the weekend! Abby couldn’t be more excited to have more human playmates. We were all together in the kitchen talking when I realized The Man and his dad had worn similar outfits so, of course, I had to torture the three of them with a picture with they humored me with…

and then Abby got jealous…

and it was all downhill from there 🙂

Hope everyone is having a beautiful Friday and preparing for a fabulous long weekend!

anniversary of being a (rescue) mom

If you had told me that we’d be celebrating having Abby for a year I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t believe how quickly time has gone! Last year, the Man was still sleeping on the floor outside her crate so she wouldn’t cry all night, and we were fighting with baby gates and pee accidents. Then also, of course, was figuring out that her legs are ridiculously long and lead to LOTS of trouble.

Now, of course, we’ve upgrade to a shoe/remote control/cordless phone eater who has to have her toys rotated so she doesn’t get bored, and has a penchant for sleeping on our bed IN BETWEEN US (which, what spoiled dog doesn’t??) or blatantly stealing my spot in bed in the morning.

But you know what? Despite the countless eaten shoes and dug up garden beds and muddy paw prints and torn up toys strewn about the house, I wouldn’t change anything for the world. I couldn’t be a prouder rescue mom.

easter joy

Spring is truly here! The crocuses are in bloom and my daffodils have started peeking their heads out. I have to say that our Easter weekend was a beautiful one. We started off Good Friday with an amazing meal. I was able to run to the farmer’s market early on Friday morning and picked up a gorgeous piece of King Salmon.

the prep

Fish is always the Man’s job, so he turned on the grill and broke out the cedar planks. He seasoned the salmon with dill, scallions and lemon. It was amazing. On the side, he grilled some portobello mushrooms and we had some herb rice.

the chef in action (who hates it when I take his picture)

Saturday was spent going to the grocery store and stocking up on tons of meat and veggies. I had a big meal planned for Easter Sunday! Abby was excited for Easter.

not sitting still…

But finally agreed to sit like a good girl.

pretty puppy!

After church, we were cleaning up some branches in the yard. Abby loved this, of course.

fetch!

And then I had an epic failure. While just standing and HOLDING the telescoping tree trimmer, I managed to get myself a nice avulsion, which is just a fancy word for forgetting about gravity and slicing off a chunk of flesh on my thumb.

there will be blood

And of course, my planned meal was something the Man had never cooked before – and neither had I on my own, without my mom – so I was on my own! But by wrapping it up to the size of a carrot, and being very careful, I managed to pull it off!

feast!

I made chicken cordon bleu, a mushroom shallot sherry cream sauce, broccoli rice au gratin (thank you Rice A Roni!) and fresh steamed broccoli, all paired with a nice white wine. I have to say, it was absolutely AMAZING!

It’s sad that our families are so far away, but we still had a beautiful holiday. Sometimes having great phone conversations and a nice hot meal can be just as lovely. And even Abby got some chicken for dinner. And she had no complaints.

end of the day exhaustion

I hope everyone had a beautiful holiday weekend! Spring is finally in the air, and I can’t wait to see what the coming months bring our way.

out like a lion…

March certainly is going out like a lion, with a ton of rain and maybe SNOW tonight (eek!) but above all, I can’t believe the month is over!!! March was jam packed with events for work, celebrating birthdays, and hanging out with friends.

Saint Patrick’s Day was quiet but I found out we have the coolest crossing guard ever in our town.

I took some corny selfies to show off my Irish.

0317151231

We had some very pretty, albeit late in the season, snow.

0320151213

Luna enjoyed the growing daylight hours by lounging on the radiator a whole lot.

And Abby continued being Abby, trying to take over the couch (and ignoring personal space).

All in all, I’d say it was a good month. Bring it on, April! I’m ready for you 🙂
